| Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks; laboratory testing is helpful in the later stages of disease. | SO i have this Borreliosis which the doctor said probably comes from infected blood when i had many transfusions in one month. This was 8 years ago .Since then I have had 2 children .Do they need to be tested for Borreliosis also. Thanks for time Carla |

| If you have had children after you had the transfusions which were most likely the origin of your own Lyme disease, then your children were definitely exposed during child birth, and they should also get Western Blot IgG & IgM Lyme tests done from IgGenix labs. The incidence of transmission is probably about 50% in utero and perinatal, but the actual rate in children of proved positive parents is higher than that, probably because of life-long exposure, and out-door life-style choices. -Beverly Drottar MD

| SORRY to be SO negligent!! I never checked the "notify me of replies box", and then I hadn't been checking this website and ALL the threads carefully--so I totally missed this thread on Lyme dz. Bad on ME! The facial sores might come out WORSE when you first start taking antibiotics, because of what is commonly called a "purge" reaction. That is when your body chemistry is becoming MORE inhospitable for the parasites, they become more agitated, and start to lay eggs and also start burrowing out of the skin, and hatching out their various larvae, etc. in a last ditch attempt to A) reproduce and B) escape and C) survive by any possible method including making you re-think your choice of treatment! If the treatment IS effective enough, and this is just a purge, then it will usually respond to the DSP cream, or other supportive topical treatments to soothe and heal the sores, (like zinc oxide cream mixed with essential oils, or frequent applications of vitamin E oil.) and it will heal within about 2-3 weeks. BUT IF the parasites are developing some resistance to the antibiotic that you are on,then the sores will persist and NOT heal. This is an indication that you will require 2-3 drug therapy combined to improve a synergistic & more lethal approach. Just because you have started antibiotics, doesn't mean that you can't do Bubba's treatment step's for your skin care--they are at least as good as supplement with another antibiotic. Good luck--I hope that you are even beyond needing this at this late date...
