It's not taken seriously because of Kaiser's report that it was rare and easily treated with a short course of antibiotics.Exactly what the CDC wanted them to say and why they have been chosen to do the Morgellons study. Its all about money. ![]() Carlax

I have mixed emotions about this article. A Dr, especially treating children, needs to physically examine them (even if there are no physical signs), for general good health, and probably check their liver, prior to issuing long term antibiotics. I think it was a slip on the mds part... ![]()

I agree, Redi that if for no other reason than to keep the board at bay and not give them the opportunity, the doctor should have examined the kids first. I am assuming what they didn't tell in the article is that the reason he did not is because of being in a different state. On the other hand, think about how many doctors order antibiotics for patients who call over the phone for anything from a sore throat to stubbed toe. So now this gets press and as the article said will be a set back to progressive doctors who actually have the impetus to try to make a difference. On the other hand (how many hands do we have, anyway?) possibly this article in the associated press will get the attention of people (it has already on this forum) and will possibly stir up some agitation. While I was reading some of what Evan said I began to think of the frustration and anger we are feeling because of the CDC dragging it's feet as well as practically NOBODY stepping in to look at this disease while everyone is suffering. Then what TCM wrote about our appliances, taxes, etc. I thought, "where is the NATIONAL consumer advocate association?" What is Ralph Nader doing these days, chasing unsafe cars? I read he was scared off, whether or not it's true but I wouldn't be surprised if someone or ones representing 'special' interests made him an offer of NOTHING that he wasn't able to refuse. We need representation regarding so many things that are wrong and we have these little satellite organizations which could be so much more powerful if banded together. This is just bull**** that we have no representation. Even hardened criminals and murderers have representation. Okay, my soap box is creaking from the weight of my big mouth. Kritters

Splendid. Just what need need: Further precedent to discourage Drs. from remote consultations. Bear in mind the above practitioner did engage in questionable treatment protocol. It is not normal for any Dr. to write months of antibiotics for a patient that was never seen. Now those who engage in remote consultations, I am certain have spoken with their lawyers as to malpractice compliance issues. What I have seen from established Drs. treating distant Morgellons patients is that patient travels in person for the initial consult. Then subsequent virtual consults happen via phone/ photo, etc. I don't expect the above situation to completely deter the established Lyme Drs. to eliminate a responsible process. My concern would be unnecessary frequent long distance travel on a population that may already have excessive financial burdens. If I do start seeing a Dr. at distance, there is NO WAY I could afford to make unnecessary trips 2000 miles away every sixty days, just so some ambulance chasing lawyer shark doesn't threaten the Drs. livlihood. This is a virtual age: The Drs. should be allowed to give subsequent consultations via camera, phone, video, etc. Now as a side note, if the blasted CDC or someone university medical study further validated our situation, and communicated our plight and treatment protocol to Drs locally. We, along with the few Drs. responding to our concerns, would not have to be faced with such risk, burden, and hardship. Of course, this is just one of many adjunct issues.

Exactly, Ev~ And this is the problem. Anyone with half a brain would assume these people are with us in the 'information age', right? Wrong. They are so out of it it isn't funny. Not that it would be funny anyway. They are so preoccupied with Nerdislami that they have no clue what is really going on in the world. Follow the texts. Follow the paycheck. Collect your 401K. Buy a retirement home. Enjoy the grandchildren. Aaaaaah, life in Ignorblisistan. Well, here's the good news: Those people who make too much money to know what google means other than when they see their stocks go up are, in the long run, going to be the biggest losers. It's called, "the information age" and it's going to make a difference. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! (think champagne instead of beer)Kritts
