Default Low Thyroid and some natural remedies

Just a quick comment: for some using iodine or seaweeds such as kelp can suppress thyroid function. There is usually an autoimmune condition involved when this happens. Also, if on thyroid hormones some of these may interact with the hormone and make thyroid hormone levels too high in the body. And it is important if low thyroid is suspected and suggested natural remedies do not help or make you feel worse, to try to find a doctor who treats symptoms and not test numbers.

Natural Remedies to Increase Thyroid Function

Tess Thompson

Symptoms like cold hands and feet, sensitivity to cold, headaches, sleeplessness, coarse skin, swollen eyes, fragile nails, joint aches, constipation, fatigue, croaky voice or dizziness are hardly ever associated with a major disorder. Such symptoms are often waved off as inconsequential and temporary.

This above all is the main reason why thyroid diseases are among the most under diagnosed diseases in the world. Matters become worse because laboratory blood tests are also not helpful in unequivocal diagnosis of a thyroid condition.

It is however, possible to avoid a thyroid dysfunction with proper diet and natural thyroid medication. A good diet can go a long way in keeping the thyroid gland in a healthy condition.

Avoiding foods that have possibly been treated with chemical pollutants is the first step towards a thyroid-friendly diet. Water should be treated properly ensuring that chemicals are kept at bay. Expeller-processed or solvent-extracted oils need to be substituted since such polyunsaturated oils can block the production of thyroid hormones.

Thyroid medications, that are believed to be hormonal in nature, are generally avoided by many people. But if ignored, complex thyroid medications become necessary for any kind of thyroid treatment once a thyroid disease is diagnosed.

In some cases a thyroid malfunction can even be treated with natural thyroid medication that includes a thyroid-friendly diet regime coupled with natural hormone supplements. Alternative thyroid treatments include diet regulation, homoeopathic remedies and herbs have been seen to be effective in thyroid treatment.

The home remedies or herbs that should be used for thyroid treatment differ based on the specific condition. This treatment should only be administered under the guidance of an expert practitioner. Some herbs and remedies commonly used are:

Herbs:

* Shilajeet-Asphaltum puniabiunum - Described as India’s wonder drug, it contains 85 minerals in different forms.
* Kanchanara - Bauhinia veriegata (purple mountain ebony): Helps in healthy functioning of thyroid.
* Bladder wrack (Fucus vesiculosus) - A natural source of iodine.
* Licorice – Used to maintain a healthy balance between glands and energy building.

Diet:

* Coconut oil is considered better for overall thyroid health. Coconut oil is a saturated fat. Its triglycerides increase metabolism and control weight.
* Vegetable juices, unrefined sea salt are healthy foods that can improve thyroid functioning.
* Avoidance of excess wheat flour, refined sugars, potatoes, and other glycolic foods also helps.
* Stimulants like caffeine should be avoided at all costs.

There is an old saying that "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." A holistic management that includes diet, herbs, and natural thyroid medication can prove to be extremely effective in maintaining good thyroid health.

The ABCs of Hypothyroidism :: Holistic Healing :: Herbal Remedies :: A-F :: ashwagandha (Withania sominifera)

Excerpt:

Natural Treatments for Hypothyroidism

Iodine is required to make thyroid hormones. Bladderwrack, kelp, and dulse are rich natural sources of iodine. Dosage: 300 to 400 mcg of iodine/day.

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid required to make thyroid hormones. Dosage: 500 mg/day.

Ashwagandha (Withania sominifera) has been proven helpful for low thyroid conditions. Dosage: (standardized to contain 1.5% withanolides) 150 mg/day.

Selenium works as a cofactor for the enzyme that converts T4 to T3. Dosage: 100 to 200 mcg/day.

Homeopathic remedies Fucus vesiculosus or thyroidinum. Dosage: 6X to 30X, 3 pellets, two to three times/day.

Make sure to avoid soy products as they may block the absorption of thyroid hormone.

Herbs for an Underactive Thyroid

The herb bladderwrack can be used to improve thyroid function because it contains iodine. In the modern world though, hypothyroidism is not caused by iodine deficiency and too much iodine can cause a person to develop hypothyroidism. Which means bladderwrack should be avoided unless it is directed by your doctor.

Another herb called coleus forskohlii may help to stimulate thyroid function and increase thyroid hormone production. This herb should be taken in amounts of 50-100 mg, two to three times a day.

Guggul is another herb which may stimulate the thyroid. Here’s a good article about it with references:

Please be very careful with the selenium!

I took it a few years ago and started having horrible back aches & spasms (started just under my ribs/abdomen and progressed to my mid/upper back). I stopped taking selenium and the aches went away.

I thought I would do an "experiment" six months later and the back spasms came back so severe I was crying and couldn't sleep.

Also, when I was really sick with "M" my temp was averaging 97.0.

I'm glad to read people are getting better!

Itwl,
jonsi

I am doing more but I am quite sure these have had a big impact. The thick skin is sheding.

Read up on the VIRGIN COCONUT OIL it works to restore function to the thyroid, this gives energy, before taking the oil, make sure to look at yourself REAL good so you know the difference, your hair will be nice within days, you can FELL the difference in the shower. Your energy will go up, your LOW BODY TEMP will also rise, check your body temp, it is NOT 98.6 I will almost bet you. Rub it on the face skin before bed and over red areas.

Don't believe me, read up on it.

I am still getting bumps and itches on my head. and some of them had the little waxy cores that look like waxy larvae. they itch, come to the surface and i squeeze them and what pops out but this solid little orange-brown waxy -thing- that has tiny projections coming off of it. i have saved some to examine, but dont' have a scope. if anyone wants them, i will send them to you ROLMAO.

and i have some hive like things on my back side, that itch, get a scab and DON'T HEAL.
My primary doc said they looked herpetic. great. but they seem simlar to the stuff that the other doc thought was the pityrosporum yeast, but these area flat and raised and the others were more like tiny pimples. so you got me.

i have dx other people by sight with the pityrosporum. including a nurse, who DIDN't believe me. I said, oh you have on your chest exactly what I do, and she said "no that's just a rash i get from workign out" and i'm like, yeah, cuz you get hot and sweaty and you are eating too much sugar and wheat and yeast love that. she thought i was insane. i think she is ignorant and irresponsible. she did not treat me well. i was tryign to help her, but who needs a smarty pants patient. I DO. I gotta do my home work.

Talking maybe some HELP!

just a short statement Dear Friend:

Thank you for writing. I have heard from many
Americans whose lives have been affected by a wide range
of health conditions and diseases. Whether they are
common, preventable ailments or rare, life-threatening
illnesses, we must do more to find cures and improve
treatments for patients.

I have always been a strong supporter of medical
research that saves lives, relieves suffering, and improves
the quality of life for those afflicted. Medical miracles do
not happen by accident. They often result from painstaking
and costly research, as well as years of trial and error.
From the sequencing of the human genome to life-saving
vaccines and pioneering cancer treatment, Federally-funded
research has led to scientific progress and improved health
care for countless Americans.

My Administration has already begun the work of
advancing medical research. The American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act provides $8.2 billion to the National
Institutes of Health for scientific research grants. This
money will help fund an array of research projects in labs
and hospitals across the country. I also lifted the ban on
Federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, which
has the unique potential to help us better understand?-and
possibly cure?-some of the most devastating diseases and
conditions. To explore the steps my Administration is
taking, please visit: National Institutes of Health (NIH) - Home Page or National Cancer Institute - Comprehensive Cancer Information.

This work is essential not only for our health and
well-being, but also for the progress of all humanity.
Together, we can ensure America continues to lead the
world in medical research and scientific discovery.

Thank you again for writing.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

Default Checking under a microscope

Baraka,
I teach and I have checked this stuff under a very powerful microscope that is part of the science lab and I can't get my doctor to listen. I no longer trust him since he labeled me with DP so I won't take the slides to him. I see black things within the different colored fibers but I also see a green bacteria-like cell with several mitochondria and no apparent nucleus. They are green. A researcher said that he found bacteria similar to psuedomonas. Psuedomonas is green.

Doc,
Did you send that letter to the president? Did you write about morgellons? I think the administration should be aware of this disease and its implications, not just physical but environmental and economic. General Mills and companies like it may go under as well as most fast food places since low carbohydrate diets help relieve symptoms and most people would not knowingly eat Frankenfoods or give them to their children.
