Hi everyone. I spent the past 3 days in the hospital with my best friend Dawn trying to figure out what is wrong with her. I think I found this forum through divine providence and for that I am truely grateful to have some people to talk to to who won't act as uncaring and dismissive as the hospital staff.

Dawn has never been what I considered a healthy person but her condition had deteriorated to the point where we had to take her to the ER for chest pains and left arm and hand numbness.

She was put in the cardiac ward and in isolation for possible shingles and then later scabies. As you probably guessed she has sores all over her body. Shes been dx'd and treated for cystic acne a couple times in the past .

Without culturing or scraping a single sore they treated her with Quell which relieved the itching for awhile (from what I've read on here THAT was probably a big mistake.

After the scabies treatment they did say she never had it and it wasn't shingles. She did see a shrink who wants her to take serequel. Then she was taken off the isolation restriction.

Then came the hours of WTF? The crying, the anger and hopeless feelings. I did my best to stay positive. Some how her boyfriend was able to get someone to come in and listen to her whole story (floor manager I think), not just the top two symptoms she came in for (heart and numbness). Then she saw an infectious disease specialist who did a great job examining her.

As we were sitting there between specialist visits, Dawn was once again telling me she feels like there are bugs tunneling and biting her under her skin. So for the fun of it I looked up "parasites under the skin" on my smart phone and almost immediately found out about Morgellons.

I sure was excited to read about her symptoms including the grains of salt and black specks shaped like c's and o's that she can squeeze from a sore. We were bored and had been collecting them to show the infectious disease doc. I tried to disolve one to see if it was blood like you get from a flea bite (flea dirt) and it remained intact.

When I got home this evening I started researching and came across some really scarey info about this disease, government conspiricies, bioterrorism, etc. So I'm really glad to read about people actually managing this disease.

I sure hope this post makes sense. It hass been a long sleepless 3 days but I had to make this first post because if I didn't I probably never would.

Perhaps she has Morgellons and perhaps not but either way I have a feeling we are going to have to do most of the investigating into this skin condition ourselves.

She is going to follow up outpaitient with the infectious doc and get allergy testing.

A few misc. facts about her condition. It gets worse with stress and poor diet.
Also some of the black specks look like the ones Pollyringworm posted in the intro threads. The salt like grains are very much salt like halide crystals.
She had Shingles in 1999 and thinks her cystic acne started then. She was living in HI.
She has had high mold exposure in her parents basement in MI and in her old trailor she lives in now.
She also eats a crappy sugar filled diet and takes a lot of antibiotics.
She is only 45 but her skin has gotten so bad in the past year she looked like an 85 yr old woman Wednesday night in the ER.

My dear friend is at the end of her ropes. She doesn't have much of a support system and no access to a computer so I'm going to try to do as much as I can to help her live.

Time to go take a shower and get the hospital smell out of my hair.

Thanks for reading this. A problem shared is a problem cut in half.

Doreen

Default Doreen, you darling sweet lady

Kudo's to you, Just for your info I looked up friend in the dictionary, it said
1. Doreen

It sounds like your friend has this.

You have done your job as a good friend and looked further than the nose on the doctors faces, they know about this disease.

They know well, they see the results all the time, I am going to assume like most of us her ill health is based upon this disease.

You said she had shingles, did she also have active genital herpies at some point in her life.

There are some real people here with great ideas to help her, to follow what works should have your friend looking better and feeling better.

If you can get her into the ocean and get some sun you will see large scale lesion improvement.

Go to a desolate beach, LOL, I did this when I was unpresentable, never fail, no matter how far I walked down the beach a pack of people would walk all the way to where I was and plop their butts right next to me, LOL.

Lucky I had my Darth Vader helmet with me.

Tell your friend Dawn she has just made a new bunch of friends, any friend of Doreens is a friend of ours.

One last item, how long has she had the lesions?

One last last item, if you really want to know, get yourself a small either a handheld digital microscope or a real microscope you can use the digital microscope right in the doctors office with a lap top if you have one.

You can even suggest the doctor get one of his own so he/she can she actually how prevelent this disease is, people can have only tiny issues. Thes issues are quite distinguished.

The easy things to show are spit, tongue scraping, skin scrapings, ear wax is also good, material in the nostril.

Harder to use urine, blood and poo, but they hold a lot of fibers and doctors will not be saying fibers in blood and urine are from you acting like a billy goat and eating your carpet.

Believe me I am sure some doctor has said uttered this ignorance.

Ok there is more, do not say the words insect, parasite or bug, let the doctor say it, you will be very far ahead of the game this way.

The doctors will also BAIT you by saying have you seen bugs, say NO even if grasshoppers and roaches are coming out of your eyes while you are talking with him, LOL.

Doreen, you are a great friend indeed. Most people run when they find out about someone they know having Morgellons.

If you can, have the Infectious Disease doctor test her for Lyme disease, Mycoplasma, EBV, and any other infectious parasitic disease. Most people with M have tested positive for Lyme disease or Mycoplama including myself. It's at least a start and the treatment may help her. Also, if she can afford it, Lyme doctors (who can be hard to find) are starting to treat Morgellons. Also, heart problems are very common with Lyme.

As far as the blood test, I went to Lab Corp myself and wrote down the codes of the tests I wanted and brought them to my doctor. Surprisingly, she ordered the tests without any questions. Tell your friend to hang in there. It's a long road but she can get better with proper diet and skin regimens suggested on this forum such as Epsom Salt baths everyday.

Doreen
so whats going on with her now? did her skin start getting bad about the time of a move, how long has she been in her trailer, how long folks basement?
does she live alone and get depressed a lot?
shes so lucky to have you for a friend, dont abandon her. she seems to have taken a different route than most here, her docs actually took her serious and did tests, it sounds like.
this morgs sucks.. mines back in full force, damnit..
just whatever you do, do NOT let her start trying all the crazy 'cure alls' that are out there, listen to your gut, if something doesnt sound right or doesnt feel right, dont try it! so many spend tons of money on useless junk, or tear themselfs up way worse trying to cure then selfs..
try to get her out of her house much as possible, like go to the beach, or hang out somewhere thats not a depressing trailer. that can get to a person real fast..

Default salt

Soaking in the ocean is the single best skin treatment when the ocean water is allowed to dry on the body and the ocean visit is long.
