| well, the whole tinkering thing i do get ruffled about. i am no doom sayer, but i will tell you a strange thing: i was at 19 for a short time a beekeeper of some very unusual bees. they were bred to be docile, and were a light golden color. they produced honey from clover which ran clear. best honey ever had. my job was to give them sugar water, and to smoke them so not get stung. i had my suit i never did bees are fascinating creatures, they communicate through pheromones. they might raise there butt release a pheromone to tell the bees of what is going on. they also through noise would tell me their mood. when agitated, be a strident bugging like EHHHHHH , where after i had my can with billows and burning burlap inside and smoke them, would calm down to a pleasant hum. they would stagger around, yes my job in part would be to get them "drunk". i would also whack together the frames for them to make their combs in. it is theorized that the fibers , which i believe is just a cocoon for organisms inside like a string of pearls also put out pheromones to attract insects to us, and possibly some components could communicate somehow between each other in this manner as well. a funny part to this story was one of the workers was named mike mckeen. he was a Vietnam vet. he liked to drink alot, and of course he would come to work smelling like a distillery. none of us got stung, except for this poor fellow when would reek. we would laugh go "hey mike you been drinking again huh?" he would mutter and curse in response. seems like bees do not like the booze smell at all makes them mad. he woud get like 20-30 stings as a reward for his boozing. it finally came down to a choice: beeking or booze. well needless to say he got the heck away from the bees, (LC). |
