"The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka

Just today I remembered thinking a lot about this short fiction the year before I knew, for sure, that something was terribly wrong with me:

It had been over 40 years since I read that story. I believe I sensed, on an subconscious level, that something dramatic was changing in my body.

This thing is so weird in so many ways.

Here's the opening excerpt:

Gregor Samsa awakes one morning in his family's apartment to find himself inexplicably transformed overnight into a gigantic pest. Gregor does not immediately recoil from his insect form, but instead chooses to lament his job by saying, "How am I going to get to work?" and the general misery of the rainy weather outside. Indeed, the narrative establishes the poor conditions as the cause of his bed-ridden state. Gregor works as a traveling salesman, and, as it is usual for traveling salesmen to move constantly from place to place, he is accustomed to waking up in unfamiliar surroundings and various circumstances. The true reality of his metamorphosis is complete when he sees his many legs waving in the air. But from then on he resists any conscious recognition regarding his change or the fact that a change indeed happened—everything but the recognition of his separation from the others. The problem Gregor has at the beginning of the story is that his family and a messenger from his boss are knocking at the door, concerned for him, and he's unable to flip off his back onto the floor.

OMG, yes Sadsack!! I remember reading this one too, now that you mention it...what a horrific, creepy story...

It seems sometimes that also science fiction or horror movies playing in the future have a bit 'truth' in them now that we are living it...

I remember watching a science fiction movie about mutated lifeforms...trees, plants and insects attacking humans due to contaminated water (industrial wastes).

...omg!.. Never thought by then this could become true some day!

There is a book that was written in the 60s by S. Burroughs?? that describes a disease were the person inflicted would grow hairs which were really parasites.
Anyone touching one of the hairs would also be infected.
I'll have to remember what it was called but it freaked me out a bit.

Hey Jonsi, my hair did just the same..ouch!..remember those little red bumps...like insect bites?

What's up now....is it gone?...My hair almost changed to 'normal' besides all the grey..oh, well...
