Cool Insect time

Hi all,

I saw a couple of posts a few weeks ago about people's insect problems returning in the summertime. I hoped this wasnt true for me but now the shine's shining I've had a couple of bites and seen the small orange bodied fly come off my head a few times.

Am I disheartened? YOU BET YA!! but I'm determined in the name of research to be a little bit braver and kill and disect every species this time and photograph any that I find with fibres or insects in their bellies.

Shucks, what a life

Also gonna check out the remedies that people have talked about - ivermectin, tetracycline, EDTA, menthol crystals

So if my albums become full of insects, you know why

Over and out

Summer is here and I was wondering if the summer bugs are bugging anyone in regard to Morgellons. Here are some tips that have worked for me!

I have these tiny gray winged moths in my home. I think they come out of a web they spin as caterpillars.

As far as spiders and their webs (webs or Morgellon's "webs" ugh I hate the long Morgellons webs), I have been able to combat them with eco-vie and bug arrest (both not harmful to the egology). I also zap the moths whenever I see them.

I have two cats which go outdoors. I make sure to spray them with either eco-vie or bug arrest daily , actually I think that they know the spray bottle helps them feel better too!

I use eco-vie spray as a de-tangler for my daughters hair. It doesn't smell that bad if you store it in the refrigerator...ok, she's saying it does smell horrible, but she still asks me to spray it on her hair as long as her friends aren't around. I know these products have been mentioned before but we have a lot of new members who may not know.

In the white light,

Hi there,

Good de-buggin tips there Jonsi!

Thought I'd just post an undate on my annual fly problem. I'm fairly sure they are coming from my scalp. Its the same fly as last year, about 1mm, orange bodied little thing.

WELL, I've been able to get an ID on it, by asking the lovely people on diptera.info. Ok, told a bit of a lie about where I'd found it. me bad.

Diptera.info

Its in the family Cecidomyiidae - AKA gall midges or gall gnats. As the name implies, the larvae of most gall midges feed within plant tissue, creating abnormal plant growths called galls.

A large number of species are natural enemies of other crop pests. The larvae of these species are predaceous, and some are even reported as parasitoids.

Cecidomyiidae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well this species, obviously is a parasitoid. I just need to find out which one it is...focusing on the parasitoid ones.

So I must be one big gall, if I've got this and agrobacterium.

Well, Jo... I have to say girl.... YOU'VE GOT A LOTTA GALL! I know...not funny...just trying to make you smile ;-)

Funny, isn't it? when that expression was first coined many moons ago, they may or may not have known what a gall really contains.

And who'd a thunk we'd become parasitologist trainees some year in our lives?

I wonder why they come off your scalp? Do you think they're nesting there in your skin? I know that in some instances, the parasites that feed off of and affect plants can cross the line to animals as well. This is just bizarre.

By the way, did you read the article I posted last night in the new thread about lyme, etc.? I'm interested to hear your feedback.

xoxo

thanks there Kritty ;o)

I've scoped the larvae in a cocoon embedded in my scalp (photo on diptera.info), which matches the family of fly real good.

Its very annoying to be in the pub or at a wedding and these flipping flies are firing off my head. Quite hard to explain too.

Sure I'll give ya some feedback bud....

Default orange stuff

The color orange...

I've talked to several members who have found long orange fibrous wormy looking things in their vehicles and environment.

Last fall I accidently left a white sheet in the backyard. A few days later I went to pick it up I noticed an orange (fibrous...fungus, spongy, a web?) looking blob growing on the sheet. It was dome shaped, like a golf ball cut in half. I peeled it off with tongs (it lost it's shape because it was "woven" into the cotton sheet) and put it in a big jar with a tight lid. After 24 hours it had faded from bright orange to a pale pink. I don't know if it faded due to little oxygen or, because it was no longer in the sun.

I gave this sample to Clifford Carnicom the first time I met with him. I'll have to ask him if he ever looked at it.

I've never seen this bright color of orange from mother nature. It was a synthetic color.

Now when i use the clothes line I make sure to spray my cloths down with the eco-vie or bug arrest while outside.

Jo, I hope you can figure this out. And Kritts, I'll check out your lyme post.

In the white light,

Default Sabal Palms being destroyed in FLA

Speaking of insects! I saw a news article today about a new disease that is destroying the Sabal palms in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. They believe is a Phtoplasma bacteria caused by what insect they dont know! Its hard to understand this bacteria because it doesnt have a cell wall. Maybe thats why they cant find the problem in us. I know I have at least 2 different bacterias cause I know what drugs affect it.
Interesting and hopeful!

Post Myiasis

Just stumbled on a term for having a fly infestation - Myiasis.

"Larval dipterans may develop in the subcutaneous tissues of the skin or organs of many domestic animals, producing a condition known as myiasis. There are 2 types of myiases based on degree of host dependence:

In facultative myiasis, the fly larvae are usually free-living; however, under certain circumstances, these larvae can adapt themselves to a parasitic dependence on a host.

In obligatory myiasis, the fly larvae are completely parasitic, ie, they depend on the host to complete the life cycle. Without the host, obligatory parasites will die. "

Merck Veterinary Manual

so I'm a bit of an animal huh??

well, this following article talks about humans in the UK getting Myiasis:

"Dr McGarry and his colleagues examined the records of patients transferred to their travel clinic over the last seven years and found that two-thirds of the 73 infestations originated in the UK.
Overall there were 27 ticks, 24 myiases (infestation of the skin by fly larvae; 15 ectoparasitic insects (parasites that live on the skin of their host) and seven mite infections."

Default O.....My.........God

Joey.........

This is just nuts I tell ya. Is this something new, or has it been going on say, prior to 1959 or so? That seems to be the era of all this chit (love how Gracie substituted that spelling) happening with experiments and all. I could be wrong..wouldn't be the first time. Why on earth would flies deposit their larvae in a human animal (or any animal for that matter). Didn't their mamas tell them they are insects and should not be so freakin' brazen?

Anyone starting to get the feeling the human isn't all that superior AFTER ALL????
