I'd never seen that DT character Kritts...very apt ![]() I just picked up my landline phone and underneath were 8 of these fly larvae cocoons measuring about 1.1mm: And I've just scoped a fungus gnat lying near them. And then I saw a web above the windowsill so I scoped that: And then I though about what Nancy said about bugs with wings making webs (which I didnt know happened) and found this: "The larvae of some fungus gnats (family Mycetophilidae) can spin webs of silk with their mouthparts. One silk spinning species, Arachnocampa luminosa, lives in a cave called the "Glow Worm Cave" in Waitomo, New Zealand. The larvae of this species are luminescent, making light similar to that of firefly beetles. The larvae use their glow to attract midges that live in the cave. The midges become trapped in the sticky strands of silk and are eaten by the fungus gnat larvae" O. Orkin Insect Zoo: Student Resources Component--Diptera Talk about spin Nancy! Jo xxx

Jo, Last year I posted some links about how 'they' are attempting (or already have) to combine the silkworm with bacteria so the bacteria can produce silk themselves since in order to mass produce silk it can't be done with the silkworm in large enough numbers. Kritts

That's interesting Kritts thanks. I'm fairly sure that my weird house webs are fungus gnat ones. Because they have the sticky globules, like this says about: New Zealand Fungus Gnat - Arachnocampa luminosa but my fungus gnats arent so large....gonna work on it tomorrow as need beauty sleep BADLY right now nitey nite XXXXX

YouTube - The Mills Brothers - Glow Worm hope you don't mind the 'mindless' entertainment from me ;-) I'm distracted so easily. Jo, I have been focusing on fungus gnats as well. They very well be in New Zealand, but rest assured you have them in the UK and we have them here in the USA. Of course, our gnats are bigger and better, but we'll discuss that another time LOL. I had webs in my bathroom last year. I've since moved and my tenants use the air-conditioning so I don't worry about them. I was such a fool, living on the bay, not to have used air-conditioning. I only used ceiling fans. What an idiot I was not to realize the implications then. I had them hanging on my robe, which was hanging on a door in the bathroom. I plucked some up off my bathmat which I draped over the tub after a shower. They were definitely fungus. I look so forward to how we will put all of this together with the input of all our members here. By the way, you've overslept for beauty sleep. You are absolutely a beautiful person. love, Kritts

Well lets bung our researching mojo together Kritty - fungus gnats, we're gonna get ya ![]() Wonder if Unclear got her fungus gnats cleared completely by using the vermox. Although it didnt do much for me last year - maybe topically it would do more good? I scoped a web and amber goo from my nasal passage first thing (umm nice): Morgellons-Disease-Research - Jo's Album: Arthropods - Picture Morgellons-Disease-Research - Jo's Album: Arthropods - Picture And Nat talking about washing the walls made me realise that I'm completely neglecting the ceilings...where fungus gnat larvae like to 'hang out': Adrian Faria's Art and Design: Insect Behaviour - Fungus Gnat Larvae So I googled some stuff about the gnats and found this (seems to be talked about alot by reefas): How to get rid of fungus gnats permanently - www.ReefRefugee.com --- Coming Soon! It mentions that fungus gnats carry pathogens. It mentions Pythium, which is a parasitic oomycete. Pythium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Also known as 'Water molds' - we've talked about these before, wondering about its flagella as a possible cause for morg filaments: Oomycete - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "One Pythium species, Pythium insidiosum is also known to infect mammals." ummmm This research article shows how to test for it in humans: http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=516349 "The source of infection and the mode of transmission of the disease are still unknown...causing subcutaneous granulomatous lesions" - but this species is progressive. Wonder if a different species is involved in some of us maybe... Enough for today, time to catch some sun ![]() Jo xxx

| Thanks Jo for your outstanding work on infesting the bug side of this issue. I have to psyche up to overcome the creepazoids that are freeking me out right now. Yes, catching cooties has its down moments and when i get myself up from it i shall make a new cootie catcher to pluck at all your research. I was blessed by a tiny black speck bug that "visited" my facial sample tape as it lay near the lamp sticky side up. I got some photos of it this morning, with some wing detail. My goal is to say to you "aint we havin fun!", but first i gotta get thru the creeped out door.....thanks Kritts for the Glow Worm vid....it actually helped alot to dance thru that door with the music. I remember the song...i think we were square dancing to it back in grade school gym class. Square dancing was lots of fun, i forgot about that dance, you know.....those big full skirts, the peticoats....the spinning, the twirling. Think i will put that design on a long stick and sweep off the walls and ceilings...kind of a new artsie cleaning tool for the squares in my home, a mop for those dangling strands of gooy chemstrings. | Thanks for your kind words Chester ![]() I've nearly finished cleaning the ceilings sitting near the top of a ladder using surface wipes. Amazing amount of strands, many very short and some not visible - just felt them against my arms. Here's a tiny sample of one: Its the fly larvae that make the smaller silk white strands. They put muscous globules on the strands, which has a chemical in that paralyzes its prey. They also make the larger horizontal tubes and uses these to travel down at night, when they hunt. The larvae shed 5 times and can remain as larvae for 12 months before turning to pupae. Here's a fly pupae I scratched from my head: So I've realised, its the fly larvae more than the adults I need to be concerned about - are they making these strands and tubes under my skin? Its a possibility, especially due to scoping blue and red filaments integrated into the webs on my wall: I've ordered some neem oil and magnolia tablets and will report back. Over and out Jo xxx |
