Hey Jo...

Did we ever determine that the UK version is the same as the US version? I think our guy is different? Yours looks more like a fat-headed shore fly, ours is the goat horned-dog head version?

Default Kam, Cindi - stay sharp

Let's nail this fungus gnat thing this year....

If anyone feels inclined!

1) grab a gnat
2) photograph it, making sure its got a Y or V shaped vein at the end of its wings
3) squash it between 2 clean glass microscope slides
4) scope and take micrographs of the results
5) tell me about it

thanks

Jo

For anyone who has stopped up roof gutters,,,ya better clean them out,,and unclog downspouts,,,,I have found(the hard way) that it is a TERRIBLE breeding ground for fungus gnats..........

I made the mistake of neglecting monthly cleaning of my gutters and a bunch of leaves and pecans/shells clogged the gutters and downspouts,,,the weatherman said it was going to rain ,,so I decided to make sure they were cleaned out ,,and discovered THOUSANDS of fungus gnats,,breeding in about three inches of rotting leaves and such..
You could not tell they were there from the ground looking up,,,only when you got close and disturbed the debri...

All better now,,and cleaning them more often,,and spraying the gutters on dry days with NEEM.............

Hope this helps........

Thanks Cindi - only just clocked your post. Its a fungus gnat wing as far as I can tell (y shaped vein), a primative sucker.

Hope it works good Hurtin! Putting sand on soil areas that never get dry, can help outside to keep them at bay too.

jo xx
