Here's a study that proved the Mental Health Doctors dead wrong. COLLEMBOLA (SPRINGTAILS) (ARTHROPODA: HEXAPODA: ENTOGNATHA) FOUND IN SCRAPINGS FROM INDIVIDUALS DIAGNOSED WITH DELUSORY PARASITOSIS. Author(s): ALTSCHULER D Z ET AL Date of Publication, Journal, Volume, Pagination: 2004. J. NY ENTOMOL. SOC 112(1): 87-95 File size: 4Mbytes - Please note that this file will take some time to download. Accession Number: 178100 Abstract.Twenty individuals diagnosed with delusory parasitosis participated in a single site clinical study under the auspices of the National Pediculosis Association (NPA) and the Oklahoma State Department of Health. The objective of this study was to determine if there were any common factors in skin scrapings collected from this population. These individuals, whose symptoms were originally attributed to lice or scabies, were part of a larger group reporting symptoms of stinging/biting and/or crawling to the NPA. Multiple skin scrapings from each person were microscopically examined. Any and all fields of view that appeared incongruous to normal human skin were digitally photographed. When the photographic images were initially evaluated, no common factor was identified. However, more extensive scrutiny using imaging software revealed evidence of Collembola in 18 of the 20 participants. Key words" Collembola, springtail, stinging, biting, crawling, Arthropoda, Hexapoda, Entognatha, pediculosis, human skin, lice and scabies. http://lrs.afpmb.org/4VEFVW2NZBBWU40...9_f06/1S9SQ7N1 It wasn't just in their heads, it was under their skin!

Doug - the link you provided doesn't seem to work. Can you find the article again and cut and paste it in here? I'd be interested to see what it says. Thanks!

Hi all, Here's that article Meg :http://www.headlice.org/report/research/jnyes.pdf Collembola or Springtails for short!? I definitely had these on my body at some point (got photos!), and showed this article to my doctor last year. They are distinguishable by their tails (furcula) that double up under their bodies - they use their tails to jump with. They are sometimes known as snow fleas because when young they are white, but have the same jumping capabilities as adults. (see diagram attached - sorry can't attach it as no folder space left??). They can jump at least 5cm high - there is a video on youtube showing this. I think they can be carried and injected under the skin by certain biting insect vectors. Also that they may like to live under the skin at the root of hair follicles. Can they burrow into skin?? this is debatable…some scientists say yes, some say no. Looking at the article again, I realise that alot of morg symptoms are mentioned too. ie - skin crawling, white granules, black specs, sparkly bits, legions with white moving FIBERS. ...this line of research deserves a hit. I'm digging… Another study showed that different Collembola species harbored different bacterial communities including Rickettsiella (Gammaproteobacteria), Wolbachia pipientis supergroup E, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. (http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi...ec.2004.03.007) Gonna keep digging!! Nice one Doug…..ha!! Doug…..digging….HA! Jo xx

Jo~ (and Doug) Doug/dig seems we have the same silly sense of humor. love it."To characterize the bacteria associated with the parthenogenetically-reproducing Folsomia candida............" I saw information before when I goodled springtail (lost that info on the great computer crash). What I am trying to find is the candida association, since we all know candida is a mold/fungi and how it is connected to the springtail in the name "folsomia candida". Anyone know? thanks, Kritters

Hi Kritters, and anyone else interested in this, Been diggin further on collembola and the species Folsomia candida The reference below maybe a clue to the origin of their name, regarding yeast. "The species is parthenogenetic and is easy to maintain in the laboratory on a diet of granulated dry yeast. F. candida has been used as a “standard” test organism for more than 40 years for estimating the effects of pesticides and environmental pollutants on nontarget soil arthropods." http://arjournals.annualreviews.org/....071803.130331 The article below mentioned the kind of fungus they love the most: "A total of 11 different taxonomic bacterial groups and the filamentous fungus Acremonium charticola were isolated from the guts of five F. candida specimens. The most abundant isolate was related to Erwinia amylovora. F. candida preferred to feed on Pseudomonas putida and three indigenous gut isolates rather than eight different type culture strain" http://aem.asm.org/cgi/content/abstract/64/7/2660 This info below is a huge production all about previous reports about collembola affecting humans: " Collembola as skin irritants or skin parasites deserve much more scientific scrutiny. Given that the psychotic variant of such infestation has received a lot more scientific interest than the actual infestation itself, risks are that some infestations are too easely categorised as delusional." " Collembola infestations can be suspected whenever mildew odors are detectable. " " Dasgupta, R. & Dasgupta, B. (1990:43 India: "We report that certain collembolan insects in our laboratory (Hypogastrura sp.) have exhibited a parasitic propensity, attacking newts (Tylototriton verucosus) and toads (Bufo himalayanus), causing running sores in the skin of these animals. Other Collembola (Seira indica), whose gut contents were examined, were engorged with blood from the newt. We believe that this is the first record of these insects feeding on blood." A literature search revealed an expanding source of information that documents that springtails have become true parasites of a variety of animal hosts even though they lack specialized feeding structures. Once the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia began to investigate pruritic dermatitis of unknown pathogenicity, they found 123 cases. " "... Whether the immune status of the affected individuals played a major role in promoting springtail parasitism or whether insecticide resistance was a component in these cases is entirely conjectural; however, both factors have been suggested as possibilities. " http://www.collembola.org/publicat/sidney.htm (If you tap in http://www.collembola.org is goes through every species under the sun!) This article points to the fact that they are very hardy little kritters....er sorry....insects. ![]() Effects of Ivermectin on Collembola: "high density populations were able to compensate for the effects of the chemical" http://www.esajournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-abstract&doi=10.1890%2F1051-0761(2006)016%5B0656%3APGRACC%5D2.0.CO%3B2&ct=1 They seem to be implicated in alot of Morg cases, not sure to what extent or if its secondary to something else, which maybe true, especially if a human has an existing yeast infection - they are highly opportunistic after all and they love yeast! Gonna dig on some more to see if there are any reports of mutations. - I figure if labs have been experimenting with them for 40 years or more, that's gotta be a possibility. Over and out Jo xx

Hello, Just found a few more references of Collembola infections in humans, which was triggered by Rocks finding a fresh collembola hangin around. Looking back at this thread, the report from 2004, link below, IS morgellons isnt it - http://www.headlice.org/report/research/jnyes.pdf The nymphs in the micrographs of that report are so small and hard to spot and the question still stands...is it a secondary or primary infection? This is a useful Collembola blog on human infections: Collembola References The first report was in 1955...from a lost paper recently re-discovered: http://www.headlice.org/sweden/714-2418-updated-1.pdf And here's a report with some useful photos about an 80 year old woman with collembola infection: Collembola Interesting extract below: The exuvium "The larval or nimphal cuticle, was translucide, very thin, composed of four distinct zones: a globulous apical pole, a narrow neck, a brown collar and a big, thin body of the exuvium" ![]() Finally, rereading the thread, I'd mentioned about one species (Folsomia candida) whose favourite food was Pseudomonas putida, which is what Wymore found in morg samples isnt it. More mystery...which continues.... Jo xxx

| I had one of those things come out at the top of my nose.It was very very tiny and didn't show up what it was till i got it under the scope. reading one of those links Jo it says it feeds on decaying matter. Well I know I'm getting on in years but I wouldn't have actually described myself as that, now I'll have to have a rethink.LOL. What kills the bloody things anyway? I used to gather mushrooms from the fields in North Yorks about 18 yrs ago, this was when some of the symptoms started, but am betting these are a secondary infection,I think we 'give something out' (smell whatever) that attracts them. Then again I suffered candida attacks from the 70's and thats implicated. My advice would be to get some Three Lac as I'm sure most morgs will have a yeast infection even if they don't know it. signed, Dead meat.

hi ya Dead meat ![]() I think ive just found one from my ear!! weirrrdd. You used to gather mushrooms hey??....interestin, very interesting!! ;o) I've read that a mix of lime and sulphur was used, alot D.earth in environment and ivermectin were used...not sure how effective. xxx
