| The free prescription program "Destination RX" has been taken over by PSCard (PScard.com) without warning (to me). Unfortunately, this month I will have to dig deeper to cover the costs of my dog's prescription. Thank God, I only needed one item this month. It was only after I ordered it that I found out. Just to give everyone an idea of the difference I was paying $46.45 for the insulin with free shipping (it has to be shipped overnight and in a refrigerated pack). Today, the same thing cost me $77.22, $57.23 for the insulin and $19.99 to ship. A difference of $30.77. Next month I will find out what discount the PSCard will give. Also, for those like me on Medicare, there will be no cost of living increase now, nor for the next two years. Last year the additional medical costs wiped most if not all of it out. The advantage plan billed independently an additional amount on top of what Medicare extracts. Just waiting to see how the Obama health plan will effect all. Double-Digit Medical Expense Trend to Continue - The Best Life (usnews.com) Last edited by Dove; September 2nd, 2009 at 05:26 PM. | AvidDogLover: Read the first post and subsequent posts here to answer your question--a new card was issued for the free drug program to Dove. As far as I know this program is usually run by the drug companies for those who qualify for it (very low income). You can find information under the financial section of this forum about this (Franky has posted about it in the past, though the information may not be up to date I think he posted some links there too which should have up to date information). Also you can do a search online for this information.

| I wish that insurance & medicare would pay for homeopathic/naturopathc medicine! That's what worked for my daughter & me. I thank God that I didn't have insurance when "Morgellons" affected us. Otherwise I would have never gone to see the Holistic Doctor who helped us get better. It will be a sad day when I am forced to pay for health insurance and the Medical field that does not recognize "Morgellons". | Well, I thank God that I do have insurance as there have been times I was so sick with Morgellons it was doctors who helped me. Last year it was not so much the medication area of Western medicine which helped me but the diagnosis. After receiving a firm diagnosis from a Western medicine doctor I then took the results to my TCM practitioners. The first practitioner said "Oh, it's the flu. " (You can see why I miss the TCM master who is now teaching classes in Hong Kong--he would have known in a New York minute what to do as far as what was wrong.) Anyway I knew from the pain I was experiencing this young TCM gal was way off base in her assumptions. It was Western medicine which found out was wrong, but the drugs to treat it caused me even more pain and did not solve the problem. So while I do not always think Western medicine is the best way sometimes it can be helpful as one of their largest strengths is diagnosis as long as it's something that they know about and recognize. Morgellons of course is not one of those areas. Still when I got into real trouble, as I was last year, Western medicine indirectly saved my life by pinpointing what was wrong, an intestinal blockage which I believe was caused by what parasites I have gluing together right there. That's what it looked like when I started using the TCM intestinal formulas for both the large and small intestine. It took some time but after that I was out of pain and the rest of my issues from that time, such as severe heartburn, disappeared too.I think it is good to keep an open mind about Western medicine. It may not cure us, but sometimes even some of their treatments help us. I think that in part the viral medications helped me with the lesions which were caused by viral infections, those mostly being on my back. Herbs did not do anything for those lesions. Once again it was Western tests which identified the fact that I had some reactivated viral infections. You cannot say what infection a person has using herbal medicine. If the practitioner does not know what you have s/he may not use the right herbs to treat your problem. Plus sometimes herbs are just not strong enough to control symptoms as much as is needed, certainly true in my case. I am not saying taking a ton of drugs, but sometimes for a time it may help you with some issues. I do not have any of those lesions to this day (over two years). I owe that to the effects of acyclovir not herbs. So I think there is room for all types of treatments, some of which may even involve Western medicine. As the Western herbalist from whom I took a course was fond of saying Western doctors are very good at diagnosis. You though have the choice about what you will do with that diagnosis. So last year I got my diagnosis and with what I know about TCM and their treatments I decided that with the diagnosis in hand TCM was the way to treat the problem. Certainly the drugs the doctor tried did no help one bit. His solution? Go to another doctor. So I decided to see another TCM practitioner in the practice, one who seemed to know what he was doing. Probably he listened and learned, as I used to do, to the TCM master when he was still at the clinic. So as far as that issue I am doing fine now, thanks to both Western medicine and TCM herbs. Spring has sprung though and so has the "morgellons" (whatever that is). Right now I am using both Western and Eastern treatments to nip it in the bud so to speak, so today I am beginning to feel much better again. If we ever learn what this is hopefully it will be much easier to target with effective treatments. Until then treating Morgellons seems to be an intricate balancing act. Paying close attention to your body and treating symptoms seems to be the most effective way to date as far as functioning and being able to live a somewhat "normal" life. Quote:

| To be clear, I have Medicare. The PScards were used for my dogs who developed diabetes and required (Humulin) insulin injections twice daily. The presciptions for them had to be shipped overnight in refrigerated packaging. The cost for this together with syringes and testing strips (used several times a day) is very high. Because the insulin is human insulin, the prescriptions had to be filled at a pharmacy. Needless to say, I could not add them to my Medicare advantage plan. Both dogs are now deceased. I mostly take herbals which are not covered, but, have had prescriptions filled and was happy to have a prescription card. There are several free prescription discount cards available if you do an online search. The PSCard is only one which replaced the original free card I had found for my dogs. You can also check with your pharmacy as to which discount cards they accept. |
