| Have you ever wondered why the British favor black tea? Or so many Chinese favor green? Or why they favor tea at all, instead of coffee? Me too. One of the reasons (but not the only I am sure) is the energetic properties of the tea itself. "Teas are bitter, sweet and drying. Green Tea and oolong Tea are cooling, while black tea is warming." From: http://item.express.ebay.com/Health-...mdZExpressItem That people would favor a certain tea because of its perceived effect upon the body is something I never thought about until being introduced to TCM. In the often damp climates of both countries the fact that all tea is drying (astringent) would have a very favorable effect on the dampness which builds up within the body. It is well known in TCM that damp climates will produce more damp illnesses, especially arthritis. Although drinking tea may not totally ward off arthritis, regular tea consumption might help prevent some of the severity. best, tcm

| Hey TCM ![]() Maybe you know the answer to this: As a child I loved tea with milk. I know that's the Brittish way, right? I used to butter my (ew) white toast and dip it into my heavily sugared tea (lipton....still remember Arthur Godfrey in his commercials for it...and also, guess what! I just found out a guy i work with is related to him LOL) ![]() So now I drink it with lemon and no sugar. I read that milk negates the beneficial aspects of the green tea (or whatever) another question is I heard white and red tea have even more antioxidants. Kritts |

| Hi to you Kritts, I know Andrew Weil is sorta frowned upon as an expert these days, but thought this page would interest you. All about what constitutes black, red, white, and green tea. White tea is not processed that much so loses fewer antioxidants: http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/id/QAA82788 Here's another site which shows why drinking tea with milk is not as beneficial as drinking tea with no added milk (based on German research, although it was not a large study): http://www.healthcastle.com/tea_milk_heart.shtml Here's a site which discusses research as to why it is good to add lemon to green tea (the tested type, but probably also good for other teas): http://www.cardewclub.com/news/archives/487 As to whether your boss is related to the late Arthur Godfrey, well I will have to leave that to your research. Hmm, wonder who remembers Arthur Godrey, the march around the breakfast table, and him playing the ukelele not that well?: "Don MacNeil's Breakfast Club--"March around the breakfast table ... and now, each in our own words, each in our own way, let us bow our heads and pray." Followed by Arthur Godfrey--"You have to let Lipton Tea STEEP. Never dunk those teabags..." Followed by the soaps, then the afternoon kid shows." | Thanks TCM! Wow, guess your day was boring, huh? Actually the person is not my boss. I don't have one . He's a fellow Real Estate agent and I really couldn't care less about the Godfrey man. Just got a bit too involved in my thought process as it veered. I remember him only playing the uke and doing the tea commercial. You know it's Lipton tea if it's b-r-i-s-k. ![]() Aside from my thinking that Andrew Weil is as altruistic as morg parasite, why is he frowned upon as an expert? He was my first Integrative Medicine guru. What happened? ??? ![]() Kritts |
