Chlorine may kill "normal" bacteria but I think this organism which lives in our water supplies can not.
It's highly resistent against any chemical treatment due to the fact that it

If Chlorine could kill these organism then why can I see them in my water samples. No, no they are there! Sorry to say.

Studies of water samples at the MRF has shown similar objects (filaments) in hot water tanks.

Good point, Katinka. I keep forgetting (how could I but I do) that these are so totally not like normal organisms.

Do you think boiling the water would kill them? How about a water filter (I have the Pur that hooks on the faucet) -

Hey Saro,
maybe I should take a cold water sample and put that under the microscope and then boil it to look and see if the filaments are gone.

I'll do that shortly and will post here what I've found....hopefully nothing anymore! But I'm not to confident about that...there will be alot limescale chrystals I bet...

Sorry I'm not aware of that Pur faucet filter...if it has a superfine filter it could atleast hold back a few of them.
