Question When the lymes disease is cured does the thyroid return to normal?

How many of you have Thyroids disease?..... Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). This is the most common type of thyroid disorder, where the thyroid makes too little of the thyroid hormone that your body needs to function properly. It is most often caused by Hashimoto's disease. With this disease, the body's immune system (which normally protects you from disease) thinks the thyroid is a foreign invader and tries to destroy the thyroid. When damage is done to the thyroid, it can become larger (called goiter). Not getting enough iodine in a person's diet can also cause hypothyroidism, but this is more common outside of the United States (in the U.S., many products such as salt and bread are supplemented with iodine, making iodine deficiency rare).
....Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). When the thyroid gland is overactive, it makes too much of the thyroid hormone that your body needs to be healthy. This condition affects women more than men. In young women, hyperthyroidism is most often caused by Graves' disease. With this disease, the body's immune system tricks the thyroid into making too much thyroid hormone. The entire thyroid becomes enlarged and overactive. Older women may get another form of hyperthyroidism (toxic nodular goiter), where overactive thyroid cells group together and form a lump in the neck (called a thyroid nodule) that makes more of the thyroid hormone than the body needs. Some thyroid disorders initially cause overactive thyroid, but at a later point in time cause underactive thyroid, due to damage done to the thyroid gland. PLEASE IF YOU ARE ONE OF THESE, MY QUESTION IS IF WE ARE CURED OF LYMES DO THE THYROID DISEASE GO AWAY? I have Hyperthyroidism which has turned into graves disease my eyes are bulging wont close completely have stabbing pains it got so bad I had to go to the emergency room last night. It was so bad I though there was no way they could help as I have all brands over the counter nothing was working, they put in drops that numbed my eyes It was HEAVEN now I have to tape my eyes closed so they can rest and that helps the endo doc is giving me meds to dry out my thyroid so she can destroy it but I dont want to do that, still i take the meds but my eyes are getting worse bulging more and more I no longer look the same, PLEASE MY QUESTION IS DOES CURING THE LYMES DISEASE CURE THE THYROID??PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS!! LOVE TERRI

Here is an article written by a mother about her son. Just a short excerpt which should help answer your question, I think, but the entire article is of interest:

Stop The Thyroid Madness » LYME DISEASE and its connection to THYROID/ADRENAL PROBLEMS

LYME DISEASE and its connection to THYROID/ADRENAL PROBLEMS

"John D. Bleiweiss, M.D., a Lyme Disease specialist, states, “Increasingly, I am encountering thyroid disease in LD. A local endocrinologist has remarked to me privately that the incidence of thyroid involvement in LD may be greater than expected from the normal population.” He goes on to say, “In many of these patients, the thyroid dysfunction was seen to originate in the pituitary or hypothalmus. Remaining alert to the possibility of thyroid disease is essential because there can be considerable clinical overlap with LD. Subacute thyroiditis is the most prevalent thyroid phenomenon I see in LD. Hypoadrenalism can uncommonly develop: Lyme Diagnosis Checklist - Do I Have Lyme?

Dr. James Howenstine, a Lyme Disease expert, states, “Profound dysfunction of the hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal, thyroid glands and gonads is very common in mycoplasmal, fungal, and anerobic bacterial infections. MOST EXCELLENT LYME INFO - TOWNSEND LETTER He goes on to say, “There is considerable evidence that many patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and Lyme disease have an infectious disease. Lyme disease needs to be considered in every patient with a chronic illness.”

Many of those who have Low Thyroid or Low Adrenal function have also been diagnosed with either Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which to me are “catch all” diagnoses that Doctors have used in order to “label” us with a disease they don’t understand.

There is considerable evidence that these diseases are actually caused by either a bacteria or virus. And, because of these infections, our bodies’ immune systems’ are weakened. That theory, in turn, pre-disposes us to developing various autoimmune disease as well as Thyroid and Adrenal disorders. My own son was perfectly healthy until he was bitten by a Lyme infected tick. This, I truly believe, set the stage for his own Thyroid to fail."

Forgot to mention I have hypothyroid issues and had them for years with no treatment until finally I had one doctor treat me. I still have a TSH which remains lower (it's supposed to be high to be considered hypothyroid). In the past it was even considered "normal" as doctors usually treat numbers on tests rather than symptoms. So yes, I was definitely among those with a subacute or borderline thyroid issue. That led to my adrenals becoming unbalanced as well.

My doctor is now treating the background issues I have with reactivated viral herpes viral infections. I was worried as my thyroid meds seem to be out of balance, but he said let's wait and see how the medications I am currently on will effect the status of the thyroid hormones. It seems probable then that other background infections could effect how the thyroid and adrenals function. I do seem to feel more alert lately in the morning (the time my adrenals are lowest) so perhaps there is something to getting infections under control which may eventually lead to improved thyroid function.

If you want to treat your hyperthyroid issues naturally and not destroy your thyroid function, then it is probably wise to try to find another doctor who is willing to work with you on this. It may not be possible in every case, but there may be some who can control this naturally. Hyperthyroidism is very serious and you would have to find a doctor to monitor anything you do which is natural. Have you been on to read about the latest in hyperthyroid treatments? :

Default Thyroid condition

Here is somthing that helped my eyes, I do not know if it will help anyone elses, NUTRA SILVER!!! My tear ducts work again and the black floaters start to go away right away. Because so many people have THYROID DISEASE I was also tested for THYROID DISEASE, with overactive results. Two women I know that tested positive had a severe red neck, mine also had a red tint to it and right where the thyroid is a red spot was on the skin. This other woman had hers removed because it had a growth on it and now she must take drugs all her life. Bernie Mac the black commedian that died of a FIBROUS type lung disease he had BUG EYES and I suspect he also had a thyroid condition, all probability a symtom of this malady! I am now going to tell the women I know to be tested for LYME DISEASE. Here is a real good tip for any that are having arm socket pain, do NOT go for the first diagnosis, this diagnosis being, GOD made your body wrong and the bones are rubbing together, wrong, HUH, all this time alive and now it hurts. I made them find the reason, they said it was not but now I know it was, I had a BONE ULCER in the socket that grew out of the bone causeing dull knife like effect. They missed it with a cat scan then the second worked. I mention this because that is what alot of other people are experienceing and also somthing is giving them SPINY bone. I want EVERYONE to reach down and feel your shin bone, DOES IT HAVE BUMPS ON IT, mine were getting bigger, I BELIEVE MSM took care of it as they can hardly be felt. You can actually check your children and spouse to see if they have this malady, doctor may tell you it is NORMAL take the MSM you will see it is NOT NORMAL. It was either MSM or GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT. My first choice would be MSM, run like the wind again!!!! That is also an affect of MSM.

Default Slight effect of MSM

One thing to make sure of when getting MSM is that it is made in AMERICA or possible Cannada. The problem with Canada now is it is a FRONT for products produced in China, you think you are getting PURE from the mountain springs of Canada and you are buying PURE from the CHINESE river filled with human waste and parasites. This can be ANY product that uses water in their process, noodle making, canned goods, distilates such as MSM, anyway this was about MSM. I found very little about MSM that was alarming to me. With this disease there is always some sort of affect from anything that works. I did have a tiny bit of loose stool. I will tell you one thing it loosed up my body for moving, I was running without pain, running hard, I was running like a newborn deer that is stout and with short legs, by no means a gazell, LOL! I was researching the drugs of old, remember now, before the DRUG COMPANYS took over the products were ALL from nature. This was not so long ago. If you get an OLD doctors bible from as late as 1900 to 1950 you will see all the wonders in them. You can buy these books on ebay. Doctors reference books i think they are called. The earlier the book the better it will be. The thing that interested me about early drugs was alot of them were based on sulpher, at the same time I was thinking horse raddish could probably be a goo poltice. THEN low and behold I looked horse raddish up, it was use for medicine and poltice long ago, what was its major contributing ingrediant, SULPHER. I then entered SULPHER COMPOUND in the search engine and what popped out, MSM, MSM for FIBRAMIALGIA. This sort of like was a message from god, it played out perfectly, There was my sulpher based organic material I was searching for, WITH a connection to treating a symptom of this disease, I was flabbergasted. The internet is a gift! Look at those old doctor books they are excellent reading and based in Organic and natural healing. There are some of these ideas long forgotten and worked very well. Look at the use of corn starch for babys infected bottoms, a natural and perfect solution to the ragged skin condition. The Dammed corporations could not make money on it, SO, they went on a big BIG campain selling mothers on TALC with perfume, not so easy to get talc, it was not used as a food staple, now they put perfume in it to FURTHER irritate the babys bottom and sell it to unsuspecting mothers, oh medicated, SURE, still it did NOT work. That means for a few bucks they tortured how many children to make money. You do notice they add NEW IMPROVED BABY POWDER WITH 9CORN STARCH) now anyway. What is the idea of the pleasent smell anyway, is the sweet smell to get you over just smelling a pile of stinking baby crap or is it to make the next pile smell like a bag of crap with a HINT of ROSES. I never did get the smell stuff, once the diaper was off and the *** cleaned I was quite happy, you may say elated. I wonder if they make teenager powder, now there is an idea. Use it on them, their rooms, their friends and put just a bit of lice killer in it, LOL. The other wonder NATURAL (in a way) baby *** salve is Desitin, fish oil and 40% ZINC wow, stuff is also great, after the babys raw bottom heals up with LOTS of corn starch and changes ON TIME, then cover the bottom with this healing agent (DESITIN ) and it will keep off the uric acid and also keep the skin healed. DESITIN works wonders when a wraping of plastic wrap is put over it to keep moisture in, when an arm with lesions need to be healed up after you kill them first.

Default You should have went out and tried to run

What you need to do is right now go out and try to run, you may find it is already working, but how would you know the difference if you didn't try to do it before. The thing I really noticed is I could run like the wind, a small breeze on a hot day, sort of. I am not tall and I am not a slender built man, more thick, stocky, so I never really ran like a deer. The fact that I could not make one TINY wrong move without feeling like someone stabbed me in the lower back was me in the beginning. The after affect had me jogging feeling like I could burst but then I search my mind for intelligence, this intelligence was to warm me of a future laying in agony crippled in bed for months from stupid movements I know would HURT BAD. That was put out of my mind as I pounded my feet on the pavement half the way down the street, I was running too fast actually and almost went forward on my face. I don't think the nerves are keeping up with the pace anymore. My next thought was, you may not hurt now superman but tomorrow is the day you will wake up with a body that can not move and at the very least a back that will hurt for months. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE the back and body had NO PAIN, none at all. One thing to be carefull of is the fact that they want you to megadose after your body gets used to it and then cut back. I would NOT suggest this, 1 teaspoon in the morning and one at night before eating in grapefruit juice is most likely all you will need, you may be able to cut that down to a half a teaspoon two times a day! Let your body tell you the story. Now if you are fit enough to walk go out and start, as you get better walking burst into a run, walk run walk run, do not wind yourself. This method will have you running farther and farther and walking less. Buy running/walking shoes, it will take no time at all to run a whole block, then 1 mile. Get an mp3 player with music that energizes you to move, there you have it. You may have a time with loose stool to diarea, that will pass. There are some people that really need that moment because like me they are full of it!!!!!

I feel like Al Pacino in Godfather III - the more I stay away, they suck me in!!

I was diagnosed with Mono in 9th grade (1982) after another tick bite and no connection was made at the time of hospitalization. Later, they said Hypothyroidism!! I took Levothroid for 6 years and then decided to change diet and workout routine. I had 2 healthy boys 18 mths apart and was tested and do not have hypothyroidism. I knew that this darned Lyme's was the reason for the mono and thyroid after I was diagnosed. I have been overly healthy for 20 yrs except for exhaustion and fog, but both of those put me over the edge as a type A CPA who could do the work of 5 each day. Ginger and the CA crew told me that my immune system was on auto pilot fighting the borreliosis. When I had a few bad bouts of acne and other bacterial issues in my late 20s (first time in life), they put me on minocycline. I did well until I went off each time.

It's so complex. Health is all encompassing and when you have little ones to tend to each day, you end up taking care of yourself last. It has to be first.
