| Hello all, I am currently on medicines to dry out my thyroid, and at the next appointment my Dr says shes gonna give me medicine to destroy my thyroid, and then Ill take medicine the rest of my life. This makes me very nervous and I was wondering how many of us here with morgellons have a Thyroid problem? and if you do have a thyroid problem is it hyperthyroid? or is hypothyroid? Id be glad to do it if I knew the morgellons would go away, but I dont and my gp doesnt even want to work with my lymes doctor in NY, so the Lymes disease has taken a back seat to this Thyroid problem for her, and apperantly shes gonna have to, or looks like I wont be treated for it. My Lymes Dr called me asking me why wouldnt she work with him return his calls or letters, I had no idea although I did believe that she was somehow insulted when I went to him, although I am like all of yall and I really want to get well, the Lymes Dr found the thyroid problem and he urged me to get treated by my gp here for it,and I went for treatment then it swelled up throat got really really sore and it became hard to breathe and had to go to the hosipital for a week I believe because of the thyroid, does anyone know if I have this destroyed as my Dr put it, Will the morgellons go away? Thank you ...........Terri

| Hi Terri, I am hypothyroid and have been for quite some time (although not always treated as my TSH did not fit the numbers doctors required for treatment--symptoms as always are ignored in favor of tests by most doctors). About seven years ago I got a goiter after a bout of flu. It has gone down a lot since then from using herbs. I am also currently on natural thyroid hormone (prescription). After reading about other people's experiences after their thyroid was "destroyed" by radiation I think that I would get extensive second opinions first (more than one even). It is very hard to properly balance thyroid hormones with a partially working thyroid. Without one, from what I have read in the past on thyroid forums from those in this position, it becomes quite difficult to get enough medication and also to keep the medication in balance, especially if the doctor is not a specialist (and even if they are, many endocrinologists are real jerks, numbers guys, who will let you suffer terrible symptoms of low thyroid as long as the test numbers are right--too bad for the patient about symptoms). Here is a good site where there is a lot of information you need right now, including lists of suggested by other patients thyroid doctors, all listed by state: http://www.thyroid.about.com This site is run by Mary Shomon who has written quite a few laymen type books on dealing with these sorts of problems. Many of them can be found at reduced cost here: http://www.iherb.com/ProductsList.aspx?c=1&cid=1218 I seriously doubt that the loss of your thyroid will cure morgellons as IMHO this is everywhere you don't want it to be (including the blood stream and the lymph system). The thyroid may be effected by morgellons but I question that it is the only organ or area of your body that is. If it were me I would want more than one expert opinion on this issue before removing my thyroid, as it may be even harder to fight morgellons with a missing thyroid. The thyroid has quite a lot to do with your immune system function. A GP is not a thyroid expert. Not that I am saying that every thyroid can be saved, but I would be sure before I did something like that there was no absolutely no other choice. There are forums on the above site too where you can join and ask questions, although I am not sure if I would bring up morgellons there. There are also a lot of articles by Mary on various thyroid issues, plus there are interviews with some thyroid experts, including many alternative thyroid treatment doctors. I am truly sorry that you are having such a serious issue on top of morgellons, which is in itself quite hard to deal with. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to pm me. I hope everything works out for you. best, tcmxxx

| Hi Terri, Welcome to this forum. You will see what we all do in the value of TCM here as you just had a response from her. She is so valuable in wealth of knowledge and general benevolence. I so agree you should get at least 3 more opinions and preferably by a progressive doctor who integrates natural medicine in his/her practice. Thyroid, glands, hormones...........very much misunderstood to say the least. NOT understood is more like it. I'd hate to see you do something drastic only to find out in short time EUREKA! WRONG MOVE! I suspect that hormones play a major role in diseases. I'm nobody, but I just hope you wait a tad and research and see what happens. Pay attention to what the doctors tell you, research on the web and be informed for your appointments. Don't let them intimidate you with their diplomas. Be educated. Best of luck, Kritts |

| Hi Terri, Did you see Chaosonline's post tonight in 'Diamonds and Morgellons? She's had her thyroid gland taken out because it was very over active. Maybe she could give you some advice too. I found this: http://naturalhealthremediesanddetox...arged-for.html I would suggest looking at detox, natural remedies, diet, exercise etc first. Removal seems like a last resort.... If I find any good detox/natural remedy info for the thyroid, I'll post it. Wishing you well with this, Jo xxx |

| I am going to be very hard so some of you may not like what I have to say and if not please keep your opinions to yourself if they are not nice. My life is destroyed from my Thyroid. The doctors let it go too long with Hyper and Graves disease. By the time I had the Thyroid taken out, from being so sick, it cause me to have a pre-cancer condition call Barrett's esophagus, that is were your stomach lining tries to take over your esophagus. I was living with a heart rate of 122 for months on end. Once I had the thyroid removed, and I did the radiation, I believe that is the only way to really see how much of the thyroid is bad. My husband as many do not know is a nuclear engineer. So I had him look into the procedure for me. We tried the medicine first, I had many different specalist look at me and weekly blood test. It was living hell. It does take many years for the right dose of meds to get you to what they call normal, then things can change, like me. I had the migraines and was sick to my stomach from the morgs, hence did not take my meds like I should have. Right now I should be in a hospital, my doctor trust me, that I will be carefull, my thyroid numbers are the worst he has seen in hypo thyroid. Again, please see as many specialist as possible, most important don't wait. Every organ depends on your Thyroid. They should not just go on a TSH number, there are T-4 that is the most important blood test, I also back in 1997 had one of the highest the docs have ever seen. I don't mean to scare anyone, this is nothing to play around with. When I was in nursing I use to think oh that person just has thyroid disease. Well not anymore, I make sure my teenage girls are tested, it does run in families. No GP can do this only a endocrinolgist. You will be okay, please don't wait. The damage it has done to my body is horrible. Thank God my parents had good genes to fight things off. Take care, Unclear |

| Unclear, Thank you so much for all your postings. You have so gone through the wringer more than most people. I'm sure your thyroid theory has merit. (I wish I were more hypo if I do in fact have that situation) I have gained so much weight. But much of the reason is that I've been so lethargic and then the sprained ankle at Christmas. We have to look at all of these things. Thanks so much for what is probably profound. I'm so sorry you have gone through so much. xoxoxo Kritts |
