| Hi all, There have been many posts and suggestions regarding which microscopes are good to use. However, I hope we can put all the information under one thread for easier access. I have an Alexis Scientific (www.alsci.com) and the camera piece that came with it sucks. The focus is blurry no matter what I do when it shows up on my computer screen. They say a better one will cost around $400 smackeroos and I just would hate to have to mortgage the house, sell my body (won't get much anyway) or play violin on the street for that. And I don't want to buy another scope since this was not cheap either. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know if I can use olive oil for higher power, or do I have to buy oil and if so, where do I get it? Thanks Kritts |

What you have might be a higher quality, I hadn't thought of that. I just remember that what I bought would have retailed for something like five or six hundred dollars if I remember right. And it was a long time ago. Anyway, I'm glad I saw your post ![]() Karen

| Things to consider when buying a microscope..... Getting a scope with a camera is very important for Morgies Good point made in this article about maybe buying a second hand scope to get more for your money http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artjun02/gcbuy.html My scope is a college one with a cam included to take photos, abit like this one, but made by Bresser: 40x - 1000x Magnificationmonocular Compound Microscopehigh Grade Features | Microscopes - All Types of Microscopes For Sale One feature I dont have, is the capability to put a hand held lens to my skin - to show fibres etc, coming out. Something to consider maybe, although it may limit the magnification you can get. Some Morgies have a ditigal blue which is cheaper: http://www.eurocosm.com/Application/...roscope-GB.asp This looks interesting, and does video - could be good. Negative points are that its max is 200x mag and you dont get lighting from below, as well as above - which enables you to see through samples: USB Microscope If anyone's got any great models, or ideas and feedback about their scope, please add them to this thread. cheers Jo xxx |
