The Cheating Spouse Allegory

Here's an old joke that can also serve as an allegory:

A husband comes home from work early and rushes into his wife's bedroom and immediately looks under the bed. His wife asks what he is doing. "I know you are cheating on me, and I'm looking for him!" His wife, alarmed, answers "No I'm not! And what on earth made you think to look for someone under the bed?"

The husband blurts "Because I've hidden there myself!"

Why does his wife have her own bedroom? Doesn't sound like much of a marriage to begin with.
