All the recent discussion about search engines seemed to be a good time to launch a more detailed post. This is in hopes that the information here will help the folks newer to the web and give those who have experience in specialized searches a chance to share their favorites. A definition of search engine and a basic overview of how they work can be found here. A person can't bring up any other search engines without first mentioning this site's syntax SE: it's the little field up in the right hand corner with the "search" button and magnifying glass. Here are the instruction on how it may be used. (there is a wealth of information in the posts from many different folks here). Wild cards, a character standing in for a single letter or a group of characters, may be used if spelling is an issue. Ours is an asterisk (*). Hence, a search for M*llons could theoretically yeild Morgellons, Mergallnons, Morjellons, etc. Allsearchengines.com is one site that lists a good number of SE's. Many of the more specialized sites have broken links (SEs come and go). Hog search is a heavily commercialized site, but others listed here provide some interesting results. Here's a site TCM mentions that's a very nice compilation of Morgellons related information: http://www.morgellons-disease-resear...17412#msg17412. There are other references to be found too (help, anyone?). As one last mention, all that glitters is not gold. Whois can sometimes provide some clues as to site origin. You can click here for the University of Washington's suggestions about evaluating an author's credibility. By the way, if anyone's interested in why google became so popular,it might be because it was one of the first engines not dependent on Meta Tags: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Google Happy hunting BB

Hello, Thought I'd mention something about searching on this board, prompted by Kritts. If you're anything like me, you wanna search in the simplest, quickest way possible - this means using the search box found top right, next to the magnifying glass. Here's the thing I realised. To start a broad search covering all the posts and topics on here - always go back to the home page before tapping it in Or use the 'SEARCH' heading in the blue bar. Why??? Cuz otherwise it will only search within the section or thread that you're currently in. Here's some more info about the search facility and advanced search, also mentioned by Badboy: http://www.morgellons-disease-resear...page=searching Joey xxx

Someone just mentioned a new search engine, that works differently to Google etc. http://www.cuil.com Apparently, its the worlds biggest search engine. Its a new one on me! Seems quite clever, and maybe helps strip out the listings that are useless...see what you think. Jo xxx

thanks Jo, Hey, two things: first...there you go again. I was thinking of Bad Boy today while going through my saved info and wondering where he/she is. Then you add to the thread Bad Boy had begun a while back. Second thing, here's another site that should be good for our research: googlescholar.com cheers! Kritts
