Hi, all:
I've just begun research on Morgellons as it appears in the news and forums of other countries. However, my knowledge of languages is typically American. So far, the only support forums I can find are in English.
Here's some very crude perspectives so far:
- From Taiwan and other traditional Chinese writing countries: general medical definitions and brief reflection of "some controversy".
- From Mainland China: News coverage that includes stories from both sides of the "Morgellons Controversy". However, I don't know enough about the source of these reports (Qian Lu Yu Wire Reports? Translation?). I wonder if China's still worried about a brain drain and therefore won't be considered a valid source (I can almost hear it now..."It's just a scare tactic"). The forums have too many colloquialisms /medical terms for me to make out what they are saying. Mostly the conversation swings back to AIDS, but some people say that the presence of Morgellons is in Southeast Asia (what is considered southeast from their perspective?), Austria (do they mean Austrailia?), Europe, and America. Nothing but hearsay.
- The Former Soviet Union has topics mostly from the news. The sources usually are Fox, CNN, Pravda, and the like. Many of the accounts are reiterated on forums from these same sources. Comments range from fear that this disease could break out in their countries to beliefs that our plight is due to our own promiscuity to DOP
. - There are many more articles about Morgellons in Spanish, but I haven't begun to look at any of them.
Has anyone else found anything? Does anyone wonder if some of these countries diagnose this as something else or call it by any other name?
Random thoughts, but hopefully some useful information in all of this
