Well according to the CDC more than 1 million Americans suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). But who knows, the number could be much higher. I am sure lots of people may have it and not know it. Its funny but years ago there was great debate with CFS as well, regarding if it was a true illness or not. If I remember correct, it took a long time, before it was even considered by the medical field. ![]() Many people are complaing about having CFS among with morgellons. For people not familiar with it: Chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, is a debilitating and complex disorder characterized by profound fatigue that is not improved by bed rest and that may be worsened by physical or mental activity. Persons with CFS most often function at a substantially lower level of activity than they were capable of before the onset of illness. In addition to these key defining characteristics, patients report various nonspecific symptoms, including weakness, muscle pain, impaired memory and/or mental concentration, insomnia, and post-exertional fatigue lasting more than 24hours. In some cases, CFS can persist for years. The cause or causes of CFS have not been identified and no specific diagnostic tests are available. Moreover, since many illnesses have incapacitating fatigue as a symptom, care must be taken to exclude other known and often treatable conditions before a diagnosis of CFS is made. A great deal of debate has surrounded the issue of how best to define CFS. In an effort to resolve these issues, an international panel of CFS research experts convened in 1994 to draft a definition of CFS that would be useful both to researchers studying the illness and to clinicians diagnosing it. In essence, in order to receive a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome, a patient must satisfy two criteria: 1. Have severe chronic fatigue of six months or longer duration with other known medical conditions excluded by clinical diagnosis; and 2. Concurrently have four or more of the following symptoms: substantial impairment in short-term memory or concentration; sore throat; tender lymph nodes; muscle pain; multi-joint pain without swelling or redness; headaches of a new type, pattern or severity; unrefreshing sleep; and post-exertional malaise lasting more than 24hours. The symptoms must have persisted or recurred during six or more consecutive months of illness and must not have predated the fatigue.

One of the worst symptoms I had from Lyme Disease was from the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The feelings of having no energy at times was overwhelming. There were times I could hardly get out of bed, let alone go to work. CFS is quite devastating to one's self well being. Wasn't this considered as a fake illness one time?

Thanks for the post, friski. I drink Green Tea occasionally and know of it's antitoxidant qualities (I should really drink more based on that) but that it gives you energy is awesome. Makes me want to replace the coffee I drink with that. Also, I have heard some about Yoga but didn't realize that it gives energy. Thank you for the great tips!!!!!!!

I believe that my CFS is the 2nd worst thing...u also get this with the Fibromyalgia, which seems like a double edged sword...and now with the Morgellon's too...well, I am just wondering...how much tirederrrrr will can I get...it is so hard just to make myself get in the shower and wash and dry my hair...the hair dryer feels like it weighs a million pounds...and by the time I am done with it all, I feel like collapsing in the middle of it...feel like sitting down in the shower, even...I am overweight, gaining most of the weight in the past year...depression also makes you really tired, and no one understands why you can't get things done...you look normal...and sometimes even sound that way...but then why is it that you just want to lay around and do only what is absolutely necessary...and sometimes not that....well, it isn't out of laziness...it is just trying to get the energy to walk across the floor some days...so, to sum that all up...yes, the fatigue is overwhelming and besides the pain, one of the reasons that I cannot work...or if someone asks me if I would like to go do this or that next week...well, er, I really couldn't say for sure...I try to think positive and say that I hope that I will be able to do it or go, but the truth is that it will all depend on what that day holds, and how I am feeling...I try like most, I am sure, to do as much as you can get done, but that is not always a good thing,, because it can put you in a position that you have to recover from doing too much...which in reality is not that much, except to someone who is tired all the time...if you do too much, you will undoubtedly have to rest for a longer period of time, because the energy to go, just won't come...

The yoga is great but at first it was very hard for me , I think the fibromyalgia creates alot of toxins in the muscles because in the beginning i felt almost ill from the gentlest of yoga. I even got a dvd especially for seniors even though Im only 48! I would recommend yoga only in its gentlest form, it seems so passive and mild but realy is powerful on a lot of levels. Im glad Ive stuck with it, its only been a few weeks since ive started but I do it almost every night. Even when I feel really tired I somehow manage to practice unlike other forms of excersize.
