| I receive Disability Benefits from Social Security. You have to be disabled 5 or 6 months before qualifying. However, they will make a determination as to the date from the information you submit. Even if you became disabled a year ago the wait time is still 5 or 6 months. However, after that the payments will be calculated from your disabled date. If you do not have a doctor or can not afford to pay a doctor they will provide a doctor to make the determination. At the time I applied I did not have a doctor nor money to get to a doctor, but, a neighbor took me to one appointment and a minister took me to the other. After approval it will take another year to qualify for Medicare Benefits. Information is available at the Social Security website. Food Help Also, to help relieve financial burdens there are "Food Banks" usually within most neighborhoods. Electric Bill Check with your electric company to see if there is a program that will give assistance to those in need. Last edited by Dove; September 30th, 2008 at 12:07 PM. |

| I have been denied twice even after my doctor said it was chronic, and was diagnosised with "Morgellons" by an infectious disease doctor in Nov. 2006 we are now waiting to see a SSD Judge! |

| Sorry to hear that. At the time I started receiving benefits I was undiagnosed and went to their doctor. I just gave him my symptoms and as proof of the bugs and that I was not delusional I pulled one from my back and laid it on his writing pad. I diagnosed myself after finding the Morgellons website. No doctor ever said what it was. I moved to another state thinking things would change, but, they did not. Just noticed the time stamp for this post is not in agreement with my time. | Even though I was infected in a 3rd world country in the 70s and brought this back to the good old USA. This is a disease they did not recognize then, so at the best while applying for military benifits I will be seen as delusional. I need to have proof that what I have is agent orange connected and I was not in Vietnam. Well I hate to tell them agent orange may exacerbate this condition but it did not cause it. This malady is the same toxin that causes GWS, gulf war syndrome and the maladys that will come home from Afganistan and Iraq. Is it biological warfare or is it nature, don't know but it is virulent and a killer. I am coming to an end of my financial comfort zone. I have always worked and worked hard, was never a burden to society, what is next. There needs to be more dialogue in this area. |
