Open lesions give us a opportunity not enjoyed while the monsters are living comfortably under the skin that is to put fluids and salves right on them. This ichthammol can be bought ONLINE or at your local drugstore, it is not needed to get a perscription BUT it may only be behind the counter and you will have to ask for it. If they do not have it then you will have to ASK them to get it, a call to the drug store will solve this problem. THIS OLD TIME REMEDY can and WILL bring some immune responce, not enough to kill the whole lesion but it will gain some attention from your body. Always use a liberal amount on the lesion and buy many different size Band-Aids ones that will easily fit the lesion being covered, you will get much better results that way. walmarts has a inexpensive brand of Band Aids on the shelf now. THIS WILL ONLY HAPPEN IF YOU COVER THE LESION WITH A BAND-AID. OR OTHER COVER, IT HAS TO HAVE A COVER ON IT. LEAVE IT COVERED ALL NIGHT LONG.

Here is a place to get the salve cheap, it is for horses BUT it is the same thing and really inexpensive. I would be careful with it and spot test yourself to see what immune responce you do get. Horse Wound Care: Equine Ichthammol (20%) Drawing Salve by Neogen Seeing that this is supposed to be for HORSES if at any time you crave oats or hay discontinue use!!!!!

Hi BO, When ever you mention this black salve ichthammol it reminds me of when I was little in the 50's. This is one of the medicines my father used on me when I had what he said was impetigo. You also say to use Desitin ointment. Which do you think is better? I know Desitin was very good for diaper rash on my son when he was a baby. I guess what I'm asking is, is there a certain or better time to use one or the other? Ichthammol must have been good stuff, because the sores I had on my legs must have been pretty stuborn to heal. As I have said before he used a canned freezing spray on the sores on my legs and I remember it being very painful when he would spray it on me. Just wanted your ideas or opinion. Thanks, Claudia

I would be using the ichthammaol on the lesion FIRST and UNTILL it is just a red dot on the arm or starts to be painful, if it becomes painful, like a BURNING feeling all the time swith right away to desitin. Desitin stops these things from going active, if they go active they can and will follow the nerve, antibiotic cream is what really made this happen to me. Antibiotic cream in less than a week had my arm hanging at my side in so much agony I went to the emergency room in two different hospitols, when they saw my beard and sores they thought I was a drug addict with INSURANCE. 10,000 dollars later I was diagnosed TWICE with not having a heart attack and no meds for the pain, because they were afraid I would abuse them. Woops, carried away agin, LOL, never use antibiotic cream on lesions, NEVER. I would like to tell you to watch, watch how you heal, you can leave the band-aids on for 24 hours at a time if you dont feel like changing them, BUT changing them and washing (BATH) with hot water and epson salt will help you heal even quicker. If you are actually treating a lesion, as soon as you take the band-aid off scrub the lesion with a clean green kitchen pot scubbing pad, this will take off all the dead material and expose the lesion to the fresh ichthammol salve. It should not hurt except a bit at first, so start lightly then go hell bent for election, do this under cold faucet water it will hurt even less. You can do it in the tub but it will hurt less under the cold water while being scrubbed. DESITIN is NOT a spray it is a salve for babys bottoms should be used under the band -aid for healing up the mess. To treat a large area like a leg or arm you can use plastic wrap insted of a band-aid. I know it sounds a bit funny but the plastic wrap is a good way and it covers a large area with great results AND keeps you from getting the stuff all over everything!!!

I use "Prid" drawing salve with ichthammol in it and it works wonders at drawing the bean things up. I found it a Walmart and it's in a little orange tin by the bandaid section. I've also purchased the icthammol ointment from Walgreens, but had to ask a pharmacist for it as they keep it behind the counter. I find the ointment smells like tar, but the Prid is much less offensive. Both work equally well. You must leave it on the sores for a while to get an effect, however I've never left in on over night and it still worked like a charm. Not a perfect solution, but it helps as an aid to clear out the wounds. Hope this helps!
