I have read that Reishi Mushrooms are very beneficial and have been proven to stimulate the immune system to activate both B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytes natural T-killer cells. It is used in people with chronic lyme disease. I am trying to find it locally in health food stores but maybe i may need to order it over the internet.

I have a question about the mushrooms. I realize the immune system vs. pathogens, antigens is a very complex system. From what I have read, many auto-immune diseases are actually exacerbated by the killer T-cells of our immune system, which is why during the great influenza of 1918 it effected those with healthy immune systems (young adults) more severely than babies and old peope (although all were effected to some degree...don't remember the stats). I could be wrong, but many of the symptoms of us with Morgellons are similar to those of autoimmune diseases, such as lethargy, fatigue, aches and pains in joints, brain fog, etc. and are resulting from an over-stimulated immune system which doesn't recognize our normal cells since they are being invaded by parasites of different kinds and are changing the dna to a degree which allows them to use us as a host. I'm thinking a strong immune system is good in fending off the initial invasion of pathogens, but when the killer T cells are called in, that's where the problems begin. We are attacking our own bodies. Wouldn't strengthening the T-cells actually work against us? Okay, I realize that none of us are research scientists and I'm just trying to make some sense out of all this. Anyone have thoughts on this? Kritts

You have a good point Kritters, how do we know if we have an autoimmune disorder? This area is so grey a lot of diseases doctors put down as autoimmune destruction are now coming to light as parasites or infections being responsible for. I know after blood tests my white blood cell count was in the lower end of the normal range so to me it doesn't look like i have an autoimmune disease, i am assuming autoimmune disease would cause elevated white blood cell count? If only all this was black and white!

Jason, What a great topic to study, yes? I would think there would be elevated counts of white blood cells in autoimmune disease. I wonder how many people here on the forum have them and if they also have other "autoimmune" diseases, have the doctors found them as well. There are so many types of white blood cells, each performing specific functions related to different stages of invasion, it could be a tricky thing to identify. Some even capture actual pieces of pathogens in the system. Some actually leave the bloodstream and enter muscle or other tissue and I would think not be found in blood tests. What the heck do I know? Where's a good Immunologist, when ya need him/her? Kritts
