UPDATE on the FDA concering CAM Complimentary and Alternative Health care

We must have impacted the thinking of the FDA. They have extended the date for comments, petitions,letters, and phone calls to your senators and congressmen. We now have until May 30,2007 to comment.

So as we say in the south, Ya'll keep them cards, letters, petitions,and phone calls to your senators and congressmen coming in, Ya' Hear.

Hello all...hope everyone is having a good day!

I found this article today and wanted to share with y'all. I realize it's a catch 22, but still am happy to hear that professionals in the medical field are starting to realize how important it is for patients to be treated in as safe a manner as possible, using alternative methods, and hopefully nutrition as well, in conjunction with or in place of traditional western medicine.

The catch here I believe will be that this is just a well covered up plan to find out just how many of us have wizened up to the benefits of complementary and alternative medicines, including vitamins and supplements along with herbs and the many other methods. From the research I have done it is very important to cross reference all drugs with herbs and supplements to prevent potentially dangerous interactions.

This is probably stemming from "them" trying to make us have prescriptions for our alternative treatments, but hopefully it will help the doctors to see the benefits also.

NIH Encouraging Doctors to Ask about CAM

BETHESDA, Md.—Health care providers should be asking their patients about the use of complementary and alternative medicines (CAM), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched an education campaign to the practitioner community to encourage that discussion. TimesUnion.com reported NIH’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) designed the campaign, “Time To Talk,” with materials to help health care practitioners understand how to inquire about the use of CAM and the rationale. Alyssa Colter, a public health advisor with NIH, said gathering the information is important to avoid possible interactions between prescription drugs and dietary supplements.

Additionally, TimesUnion.com noted more medical schools such as Albany Medical College are taking steps to educate tomorrow’s doctors about CAM therapies and are encouraging them to be more “open minded” about such practices. The college even hosted a conference this summer about alternative therapies and their integrated use in health care.
