I think some of us had our thyroid affected to either hypo or hyper thyroidism. I agree with Fracty that iodine might be key.
I also know that I gained abdominal weight for the first time in my life and I attribute that to candida and will let you know if my anti-candida therapy makes a difference.
Finally, due to my chronic fatigue and depression I didn't exercise (walk or anything) all that much or long for a few years, so that really makes a difference.
I'm also going to start lifting weights again (only dumbells) because the more muscle mass you have, the more you can metabolize the calories (which is why men can loose weight faster than women) plus weight lifting prevents diminished growth hormone production as we get older (use it or lose it).
Finally, water intake is crucial to any weight loss attempt.
