First, we looked at our immediate environment. The Pyrethrins, malathion, organic
bug sprays, etc., did nothing but aggravate the biting and itching problem. The
edible form of DE certainly got rid of any bugs in our home, but again no hope for
symptoms.
Our first big breakthrough was discovering that Tiger Balm and our Peppermint shampoo
had a common key ingredient that is active against Morgellon symptoms, menthol.
We purchased a pound of menthol crystals early in '04 and experimented with an
electric diffuser and just using small sachets of crystals placed aound the house,
including our bed, sofa, chairs, and dog area.
Instant relief. I still carry these sachets with me on trips, especially to Florida and
Texas. Our home has remained itch free since then.
For our linens and clothes, we found that 20 Muleteem borax (2 hour soak) and then
wash along with a good enzyme detergent worked well. What we couldn't wash we
just kept in a big freezer for a few days-- this worked almost as good as a wash.
Here is our most recent source for naturally derived menthol crystals:
Interesting-- I can't post this url until I've posted 15 times-- (< $20/lb)
The Kleen-m-away enzyme product was also a lifesaver. (Now called SafeSolutions
Enzyme Cleaner with peppermint.) I remember soaking a kleenex with it just to drive
the car to a local store.
It seems that once you get your immune system calmed down and healthy not much
will bother you in the way of fabric seats or an office full of electronic equipment.
Mold is another problem and best avoided.
We discovered the use of menthol and enzyme cleaner 5 years ago, and unlike a
lot of products, they've never let us down.
