The Prion theory is just that, a THEORY, it is not proven and if you researched this subject thoroughly you would know that there are likely more who disagree with it as those who agree with it, the theory violates the laws of Science by suggesting that the protein is an entity in itself, just as does the sponge theory, the only difference is the sponge theory explains why this is so, the prion theory does not.
If you apply the sponge theory to what is happening in the Alzheimer's brain it fits perfectly, the normal protein is being replicated by the sponge, this replication becomes the rogue protein.
If they Prion theory is correct then why can't Science advance any further than they have come with this disease? They are going no where because the theory is incorrect and will never be proven.
Science agrees that the plaques associated with alzheimer's look like a sponge, the composition of the plaques are nearly identical to the collagen fibrils produced by the sponge, the neurofibrillary tangles associated with Alzheimer's are identical in size as the spongin-B fibers produced by the sponge and the molecular masses of the proteins associated with these tangles, 68, 64, or 60 kDa, have also been found to be associated with the sponge.
There is simply much more evidence that the sponge is the cause of Alzheimer's than the unproven Prion theory, just because this guy won the Nobel prize for his theory doesn't mean it's right, it's obvious that the individuals who award the prize are a little out of touch with reality when you consider who they just gave the Peace prize to, a man that has done absolutely nothing to deserve it.  |
