Hello,
At a recent appt. it was mentioned that milk thistle would be helpful to my liver due to the liver strain from a heavy antibiotic load. So I want to share this with all of you hoping it might be helpful to someone.
Milk thistle is actually one of the herbs with research documenting it's ability to protect the liver and even heal cirrhosis of the liver. There are many forms you can use and it is relatively inexpensive. You will pay more if you buy the tincture, but I bought Eclectic Institute (they make good products) fresh freeze dried (helps maintain efficacy) 120 caps for a little over $10. You take 3 or 4 at a time 2 to 3 x day. It is well worth the price.
You can also go to an herb or health food store that has an herb bulk section and usually find the seeds bulk. This is the cheapest option. Grind it your self and put in cap, or mix with a small amount of liquid. One tbsp a day has shown to be helpful for those with liver problems, down to 1 tsp for preventative. It will also help cleanse the blood.
You can also make gomaso (spelling?), the food condiment, by toasting it lightly, only a few seconds as not to destroy the helpful phytochemicals, mix with sesame seeds, seaweed, etc., and sprinkle on salads or on top of other foods just before eating.
It's a true herbal ally
