Carla, it is not BS to eat some cooked foods. It does not mean that foods have to be overcooked. For some people, especially the elderly, eating something warming along with raw foods such as salad is very important to help neutralize the excessive cold effects on the body. This is called balancing food for the body constitution and is practiced by many people in the Orient. There are two traditions which follow food balancing of which I am aware. One is associated with Chinese medicine and the other is associated with Ayurvedic. I am more familiar with the Chinese tradition and in fact learned much of what I do know about balancing foods from the input of the Chinese people who have shared a few insights with me.
From : Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine: a comprehensive guide by Giovanni Maciocia
Eating too much cold food
‘Cold’ food includes raw fruit, raw vegetables and cold drinks. Patients are often surprised to be told that an excessive consumption of such foods might be detrimental as this advice runs counter to the prevailing view of ‘healthy’ eating, that is eating lots of fruits and salads in order to secure the maximum intake of vitamins and minerals. It is true that raw foods are rich in vitamins and minerals and a small consumption of such foods is not detrimental and indeed healthy. It becomes detrimental from the point of view of Chinese medicine only when the mainstay of someone’s diet is exclusively raw fruit and vegetables.
Excessive consumption of cold food (including cold drinks) injures the Spleen and leads to internal Cold in the body. This will cause a pale complexion, loose stools, tiredness, a feeling of cold, and abdominal pain.”
Of course the ill effects of consuming too much raw food may take some time to occur in the individual. Much depends on inherited constitution, age (older people are very likely to suffer from an excessive raw foods diet), overall health, climate and body type. Some people are too cold inside and that has always been a problem for me. Eating cold foods without balancing them or eating them to excess is a real problem for my inherited body type.
Here’s how the Chinese basically look at the causes of why the body may become imbalanced by poor food choices, which may lead to ill health over time (from above book):
“Our choice of foods can become unbalanced in four ways: eating too much cold food, eating too much hot food, eating too much greasy food, and not eating enough.”

This book continues for several pages Carla and you might like to read this whole section. I notice that on page 429 he discusses why he feels vaccines may be detrimental to the body (latent heat).
Here’s something interesting a Chinese couple shared with me about eating salad. First they said to be sure in my case to eat some green onions (scallions) with it and the second was to put croutons on top. Both were to help take away the excessive cold of the raw vegetables. Of course where I live the only scallions available are from Mexico and well....So a hot beverage is my substitute for the scallions. LOL Also I never drink iced water, but always drink it at room temperature.
This is a different approach to food and eating, one with which many in the West are unfamiliar. I find that following some of these ideas has helped me to improve my health, but of course this has been over time. I think we all need to make choices which help our own bodies which means following what works for us. To repeat a phrase from my above post: One man’s meat is another man’s poison.

By all means have your soup but realise you are cooking the nutrients out of it .
Proper nutrition will cure us of all illness.
Taking an antibiotic will do nothing but delay worse symtoms . |
