Carls and Kat....(Kat I'm sure you have a point about the warm temps enabling them)....and here's another thought... mosquitos. Think of how they multiply. I don't remember where I read it, or whether or not it's accurate, but I read that a tick does not pass on pathagens to their offspring. Maybe someone here would have a handle on that....but mosquitos, on the other hand are ubiquitous and breed by the millions and can jump all over the place and infect any moving object.
