Wow---hi everyone! Been lost in a work haze and missed all of these comments..... hilly--thanks for the sympathy....it is incredibly painful to watch Lucky suffer. Cats are kinda noctural, I think, and all I imagine is him being up in the wee itching hours wondering what the heck is happening to him.
I do dust him lightly with DE, but haven't done the oral yet. He's got chronic renal failure, gets nightly sub-Q fluids, and is prone to dehydration, so I've been afraid to overdo it with him. I give him occasional wipe downs with Kleen Green, but my god, it's torture for him! worriedmum--I'm so sorry you lost two of your babies so close together---that had to be tough. And goodness-- I don't have kids--I can't imagine how hard it must be to see them sick also. Even though I'm not seeing any western doctors now, I still get mad when I think of the way they treated me---and the way so many of them treat all of us. It's criminal.
Re: the mites: I think the breeding cycle is a little quicker than these two week treatments, so I'm concerned, like you, about the quick reappearance of them. Maybe I just need to be a little more patient. I've got Lucky on Frontline, but now am thinking I should try your suggestion of Revolution---thanks! Jo--that's fascinating! At least someone is acknowledging that it's going on. I've been too chicken to mention my own trouble to the vet--can't take any more "you're just crazy" looks (and words). Can I ask what brand of pyrethin you use? (not sure if you are in the US...)
Thanks to you all for sharing advice and commiseration!
