Seriously though, I don't think it means we humans gave it to the animals at all. I think we are more likely to GET diseases from animals than to give to them, but that obviously is just my opinion. Some animals can live symbiotically with parasites because they have been more inclined to exposure and inherited worms, fungus, for instance, from their parents. Humans are less likely, IMO, to have natural immunity or antibodies when they become infected. Especially children with new exposure to the critters. Also, people and animals are not exactly the same, I'm sure, with regard to immune systems.
This is not to say I don't think it works the other way around. I'm sure it can, but my point is that so many people ignore the fact that their pets can bring these things into the home and into you. If I hear another person say a dog's mouth is cleaner than humans, I will lose it, I'm sure.
So, good that you're keeping the horses off the kitchen counter, and the chickens out of the bed (get goose feathers...much softer). Also would be a good idea to not French Kiss the parrots, too.
