The Varroa was one of the first suspects back in 2001, then they thought fungus, but now as 2Many posted, pesticide is in the frame too.
Apart from Darwin, Albert Einstein said this: "If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man."
This isnt strictly true as bees arent the main pollinators of all crops...about a third according to a documentary I watched the other week. Still, it would cause a severe food shortage.
