I've nearly finished cleaning the ceilings sitting near the top of a ladder using surface wipes. Amazing amount of strands, many very short and some not visible - just felt them against my arms. Here's a tiny sample of one:
Its the fly larvae that make the smaller silk white strands. They put muscous globules on the strands, which has a chemical in that paralyzes its prey. They also make the larger horizontal tubes and uses these to travel down at night, when they hunt.
The larvae shed 5 times and can remain as larvae for 12 months before turning to pupae. Here's a fly pupae I scratched from my head:
So I've realised, its the fly larvae more than the adults I need to be concerned about - are they making these strands and tubes under my skin? Its a possibility, especially due to scoping blue and red filaments integrated into the webs on my wall:
I've ordered some neem oil and magnolia tablets and will report back.
