It clears up after around 1-2 weeks and doesn't have any long term effects. It rather seems like some kind of chemical reaction - maybe these things don't like some of the substances the body produces when hit by sunlight. ...Some color in exchange for 1-2 weeks of heavy itching...... at least the color usually sticks longer than the increased itching...
